Default Is it too early for Christmas stuff?

Was it always on TV and in your face like it is here?. I remember last year commenting on the American Idol Christmas special which was on in november, and some of our local radio stations have already switched to Christmas music. Enough already!, lets get Thanksgiving out of the way first.

I'm pretty resigned to Christmas gearing up earlier and earlier each year, what gets on my tits just as much is the fact that in the US the word "Christmas" seems to be taboo - it has to be "The Holidays" apparently.

There are trees and lights up all over our sub-divsion I refuse to join in at least until it gets to December if not later!!

That said stuff in shops is just as bad in the UK over recent years - but not in the home!!

As for the music we have 2 dedicated channels of Christmas music over right now - talk about going loco

I so agree with you, just because not everybody celebrates christmas doesn't mean we can't call it by it's name, but then we wouldn't want to offend anyone would we?

Strangley, I was speaking with a Jewish Lady tonight and she said "We are thinking of visiting the area after Christmas". The penny didnt drop until I read this thread, if a jew can say the word Christmas to a gentile why oh why cant we use the word - its that dumb church and state thing!

If someone says Happy Holidays to me, I just reply Happy Christmas. Holidays are just something you do in the summer usually. It's not my problem if others are offended by the word Christmas, it's the offended's problem.

Seeing x-mas stuff all over the shops months ago was a little weird...but then "The Christmas Tree" shop is crazy, x-mas all year round, just went up to Portland on Monday thinking it couldn't be that busy...oh how wrong...it was insane, and school kids were there too...don't know what that was about...and the decorations, ok, the weekend was rather "warm", so lot of people took the opportunity, don't blame them, but man, those lights, some are insane. Did like the huge blow up homer simpson navity set someone had lit up around the front garden though

I've seen some decorations up since Halloween!! I was like "are we skipping Thanksgiving these days or what?!" Crazy people! It kind of gets on my nerves too how early stuff is set up. In Germany the tradition is actually the the "Christkind" brings the Christmas tree along with the presents on Christmas Eve - so NO tree until Christmas Eve!

Yes, and in some schools Halloween is "hat day" now too. And then I think for Christmas kids aren't allowed to draw Christmas trees or something along those lines. I think the elementary art project is now to make snow flakes or something along those lines.

Well personally i think it's way too early !!

but somebody must be buying the stuff off the shelves or they wouldn't be doing it Same goes for T.V and radio..if we all turned over they'd soon change their tune!
I refuse to by any Xmas items until at least December! We don't even get our tree until about mid Dec. then of course it still looks great in Jan and I don't want to get rid of it
