Question Time to face the music...we are trurning him in.

Well, Im writing to tell everyone of our recent and final decision to turn Leighton in to the INS. We are meeting with our lawyer within the next week so that we can prepare a letter together to announce that he is here as an undocumented alien. I am very nervous about the whole process, and about the outcome, but at the same time, we are also very anxious. They are going to have me file an I-130. So, now.....are there any tips that anyone can give who have been through this grueling process? (besides watching what you say when they leave you alone in the interview room....I already heard they videotape you...lol.) Well, any comment (and especially support) will be much appreciated.

I am confused. How can you file an I-130 for an undocumented alien.

I think the plan is to have the application rejected, and then to appeal?

Emily,

everyone here told you to wait for LIFE2... or at least the next
session of congress to introduce a private bill. Whatever happened to
those plans?

I just hope that your fight with the INS will not be too long and
drawn-out, and that some good will come of it for you and Leighton to
legalize his status.

Keep this NG updated, you are very courageous to deal with a situation
of such an uncertain outcome rather than wait it out.

Yes, that is what it sounded like. Forgive me for sounding ignorant, but we have not yet officially met with our lawyer...we just had a brief phone conversation the other day. We will probably see him this week and he will thoroughly explain the process and which necessary forms he will help us submit. Thanks..

Yes, Des, I agree with you. It is a very difficult decision that we have made, but we are going nuts waiting and our money is slowly running out, and my husband has been unsuccessful at finding under the table work. We are going to throw it at the INS and hope they are sympathetic...besides..as most have told me, waiting for the LIFE2 to hopefully pass might take a long time......does anyone have any new info on the possiblity of the LIFEACT2 passing? If I only have to wait a couple of more months for it to be voted on, we could wait but I haven't seen a definite date set yet. Thanks for your posting, and dont worry, ill keep ya all up to date.

To be honest, I don't think LIFE2 really has much of a chance of
passing. You can thank those folks of September 11, 2001 and also the
millions of people who abuse the system. While I feel some measure of
sympathy for LeightonJ's situation, I also feel that many people who
have been waiting in line for years have been cheated because of the
last re-enactment of LIFE.

But, as in life in general, things do happen for a reason, and I do
hope she learns something from this and something good comes out of
it. Who knows, her husband can probably come back some time in the
future. You can never tell.
