Hi all,

Just a quick question.

I'm choosing flights to come to the States after my interview. The crossing I'm looking at will give me two hours at my US point of entry (Detroit) before my connecting flight leaves.

What is the "normal" time for the K1 immigration process at PoE? Will 2 hours be sufficient, or should I rethink?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Mike

Mike,

I entered at LAX and basically just walked through the immigration check. Handed him
my packet and the guy stamped my passport. One thing I might mention, they are
supposed to give you some sort of work authorization stamp at entry which I never
received and had to wait the full 90 days for an EAD. If you are planning to work
over here, you might want to make sure you get that temp work authorization. I
believe you still need to get a "proper" EAD later but this stamp gives you 3 months
of permission I believe it is while you are waiting for your EAD.

I almost missed my connecting flight but I believe I only had an hour between landing
and connection and there was a bomb scare so we weren't allowed off the plane for
most of that time. Needless to say, I ran most of the way from one terminal to the
next. But the immigration part of it was straightforward and painless.

Jon

We used Tampa and waited only about half hour. No EAD stamp or card though. Only a
few POEs seem to still give a 90 day stamp and that seems to be hit and miss. Check
out www.k1poelist.com. Chances are you will have to apply at your local INS office
for the temp one if you need to work pretty soon after arrival. (If you are marrying
right away than you can apply for the year one with the AOS application). Some places
you may get it that day, others you may have to wait several weeks for it.

Guys,

Thanks so much for your help. That's set my mind at ease - I'll go ahead and book the flights. Good thing, too - they're cheap!

We were pretty much resigned to having to wait for employment authorisation anyhow. I'll probably still ask, I figure it can't hurt, but hey. We'll manage.

Thanks again!

Mike.
