Threats of discretion: are they real?
I thought I'd rather bring this question up in a separate thread: what are the odds
that a US embassy in an Eastern European country will not renew my expired F-1 student visa given ALL the necessary documents are present (like a valid I-20, a letter saying I'm doing research that's paid for, &c.)? I'm just afraid to go to a conference overseas :(. I'd really appreciate a feedback on this one (except the hate mail of course). P.S. I read somewhere here that in Hungary they just won't issue an F-1 no matter what. I happened to get my first F-1 in Budapest relatively easy, but my impression was I'd just lucked out. |

My wife (who is Hungarian) and I know several Hungarian students in the U.S., all of which hold F-1 visas. Why would the U.S. discriminate against Hungarians? Hungary is a member of NATO, after all. Of course, this may mean very little for your particular case. Szia, Thorsten |
