Thinking of buying a 2nd home in WI or MI
Me and the wife a currently thinking of buying a 2nd home for recreational purposes, relaxing, fishing, boating. We were thinking lake or river front in WI or the upper peninsular of MI.
So has anyone else here got a holiday home? What are the pro's and cons?

I expect by 'recreational purposes' you mean something else altogether, so as long as it's far from other human habitation - and you leave the kids at home - you should be fine...

Dirt cheap in Maine, property tax compared to average salary in state is really high...but for out of staters, it's dirt cheap, hence of the folks from NY, NJ nabbing places...very popular, or unpopular depending on who you ask

We have a second home in FL...you go there you use it....you clean it you lock up go home and forget about it till your next visit when you wonder what you'll find when you open the door....
Your biggest worry...is worrying about the place...you have to learn not to do that...once you have the knack you'll just get bored going to the same place year after year...if not for the fact we love our FL home I would sell up and rent other peoples or stay in hotels in different States...but saying that I'm still looking for a place in the mountains...just wish I had better looking kids that I could sell off as slaves so I could afford it........
Joking apart I like having a second home....I love my FL neighbours and friends...and my retirement home is all paid for.....

Quite a few people from Chicagoland have 2nd homes around the Dubuque, Iowa area or Galena, Illinois. You can go fishing on the Mississippi and be back in the "Windy" within 3-4 hours.
Low property taxes in Iowa.
