Oh of course! But it's still no where NEAR to the same level as the state I live in (I can't comment on America in general of course, just what I see each day in MA). I mean, **** me, cell phone use whilst driving is perfectly legal for christs sake. It's _dangerous_. I am outraged and offended that the idiot lawmakers have not made driving whilst using a cell phone illegal like other states.

Texting is also illegal, but as of the beginning of the year, they have only made a couple dozen tickets because they can' search the phone to prove the person was texting, which is a bit daft.

Driving in MA is pretty terrible, but it could be worse, it could be CT drivers

A couple of years ago, we visited her brother in CT and took a day trip into NYC. As we had three youngsters with us, it was easier to drive in BiL's SUV.

Coming back, it was astonishing to see the number of people that crossed the NY/CT border and immediately pulled their phones out and started gabbing away!

It always amazes me when I think about it.

Boston is bad and the drivers are terrible...but for actual amount of people who are unable to drive properly, I think CT wins.

NJ/NY I think are a close tie for the rudest though

Ulsterman in Texas is an unknown quantity at this point

I don't think the driving test is as rigorous here as it is in the UK, I haven't taken a driving test in either jurisdiction, however that is the perception I have of it, though I could be wrong.

No. You're not wrong. UK, out for around 45 minutes with various manoeuvres performed- 3 point turn, parallel parking, reversing round a corner, emergency stop etc. US- 5 minute drive round the block and reverse in a straight line for 10 feet! No wonder the drivers here are crap!

Well, back home I did my test in Belfast (A1/Finaghy end of town) on a Friday afternoon and was out for an hour in home time traffic, with all the fiddly bits thrown in.

Out here I was done in 15 minutes and the only reason I knew I had even passed was that she told me to sit and wait for my picture. Quite a different experience.

I don't really know that part of Town well, but I have always heard that Cookstown for some reason was the best place to take your driving test.

Lisburn Road end, down by the university, it gets busy at 4:30 as everyone heads for the M2 from Dunmurray/Lisburn direction.

Mine in NY was too. I took it in an automatic SUV. The only notable thing was that I had to do a parallel park manoeuvre (into a space big enough for an artic (tractor trailer)), which had not been in the test in the UK when I took my test there.

Ah yeah I know where it it, I had to go to Musgrave Park Hospital a lot when I was in my teens due to a curvature in my spine.
