Things that have changed since you've been here
Some things I remember from the recent past, things that are no more:
- $1.67 gas
- Candice Bergen Pin Drop ad
- Dialing down the center 1-800-CALL-ATT
- Pagers/Beepers
- Cell phones with an extendible flexible antenna
- Must see TV on Thursdays
- Answering machines
- 900 Mhz cordless phones
- Morning Zoo radio (99X in Atlanta, with Barnes, Leslie and Jimmy)
- X Files on a Sunday night
- You Don't Know Jack PC game
- Paying 96c per minute to the UK, then 36, then 24, then 12, 6, 3, 2

A degree of cooperation in politics. Now we are infested by the nastiness exemplified by the birther movement.

I don't recall Bush being subject to the coded racism of many of the birthers. Just sayin'
Anyway, my point was to contrast the current nastiness of the political environment with the degree of cooperation that existed between the parties, say 25 years ago.

- 99c gas
- the neighbourhood where I first moved here
- we now have casinos
- the decline of the road system round here (Memphis)
- the number of people that now assume that if you don't agree with them you are unpatriotic.
- the family run eateries... now all cookie cutter chains
- neighbours in our new area that care
- in laws that still think I talk funny
- quality of local drivers

It was...but it was cheap stuff that lasted longer than the same over here like Old Navy etc....and Top Man at least had decent mens clothes...it's just a token corner in Old Navy and the like over my way here.

- Old Navy having decent quality stuff most of the time
- When I came here I spent $40/wk on groceries, now it's $150/wk (but I got married, so maybe that's unfair)
- It actually used to rain here
- Most local restaurants have raised prices by about 20 - 35%
- My 18-year-old students kept getting younger and younger
- More shops, so now it's easier now to find decent socks and underwear
- More upscale shopping also
- Now that I have a better job I can live in a nicer neighbourhood, and I hear fewer gunshots

My waist.
People on BE used to complain about bread, bacon and sausages, now it is nothing but moaning because their can't get a passport.
We no longer have a baseball team in town but do have MLS.
My grandson can talk.
The local Walmart no longer has a greeter.

I used to think Suburbans, Tahoes and Yukons looked cool... Now they just look really dated. Like the Ford Sierra, when that came out in the UK, looked very futuristic. Now it just looks silly.
Ha, I brought over a Sony stereo with tape player with detachable faceplate to put in my POS Mustang. And I remember apprehensively wondering whether it would work over here because all the radio stations have odd numbers (99.7), while in the UK it was even (98.2).
