It's the inclination of the employer IMHO. Employees are pretty much replaceable and when the employer has shareholders, it is they whom the employer aims to please.

Customers? If an employer looses some, they'll find another market/niche to gain other customers...

Train 'em, sack 'em, train 'em, sack 'em! Totally brainless! If employees are not productive enough, the only one you need to sack is the manager.

I'm not actually thinking about unproductive employees actually.

I'm thinking of employees who are nearing retirement or employees who "cost too much" (and are genuinely entitled to a higher salary). Such employees are the ones who are replaceable, in the minds of the "Board" and other bigwigs.

The biggest thing that disturbs me is that Dubbya got voted in as president, not once (rigged or not), but twice. Reason it is disturbing is not so much thats he's a bufoon, but the fact that it says something about a lot of the population. Seems to me Bush (or is that republican policies as a whole?) attract the worst of America - the greedy, fat cat business types, the religious fruitcakes, the poorly educated, and the selfish (who would vote that way just to save a perceived one or two dollars on tax to the detriment of society).

The other thing thats distubing is obviously lack of a national health service - which has the knock on effect of almost forcing a lot of people work for Fatbrits "hire and fire them" big companies, just so you can get medical benefits. Land of opportunity it might be, but ever becoming less and less so.

Here's what disturbs me. I've just got back from a weekend away. There's a clown magnet on our fridge and the remote is missing. :scared:

I hate clowns. Everyone hates clowns. I've no friggin' idea who it was. It's wasn't my cat sitter (best friend) as she hates them too. The magnet is in the bin and I'm still hunting for the remote.

I don't know, or think, this is true but I'll post it here because its about clowns and sounds a bit freaky.

A friend of-a friend of-a friend (yeah I know, that's how they all start) was housesitting for someone and looking after their two children, one evening the daughter told this woman she had been having nightmares and couldn't get to sleep, so the woman escorted the girl back to her bedroom, on the way she noticed a life-sized clown in the corner of one of the rooms in this house; she thought it was strange because she hadn't seen it before. The woman put the girl to bed and then went to make her daily call to the owners, she told them about the life sized clown, the owners were puzzled and then started freaking out because they didn't have a life sized clown.

Apparently, this life sized clown was a dressed up schizophrenic who had broken into the house and was living off the family's food. The police also thought he may have been trying to abuse the girl, and that was the cause for her nightmares.

Sounds to me more like one of those teen horror stories, but it kept be enthralled for 2 minutes.
