Default Is there any truth in the love for the accent?

So, I'm going to be in NYC for the next 4 years at university, and was wondering if Americans really love the accent as much as I've heard they do (I know it's a generalisation, but you know what I mean).

Basically, will American chicks drop their panties when I start speaking?

Thanks

P.S. DON'T give me shit about generalisations. Just tell me honestly, do you get more female attention because of your accent?

Probably depends on how much of a minger you are. You're not ginger or anything, are you?

No, I get my fair amount of attention from girls here in the UK and I have a sterotypically "posh" accent.

In all honesty, I think a British accent can give guys (and possibly girls too) a bit of an "unfair advantage". I'm neither very good looking nor particularly ugly, just ordinary looking I suppose, but the fact is that when I was in England I basically never got talked to by girls, but when I first came over here in my 20s I was talked to all the time and even flirted with, without me even trying. It was like night and day. Example of somethinf I would hear quite often- "you sound so intelligent!"... I had to stop myself from telling them that I'm really quite a stupid guy, and not special in any way shape or form. I felt like saying "I don't know what amazing romantic image you have of British men in your mind, but I can guarantee I'm not it!". Honestly, I think a lot of Americans have the Anglophile gene in them to different degrees (it probably helps explain why the Royal Wedding stuff seems to have taken over every TV channel here). Unfortunately I was never much of a ladies man, so I was never able to take advantage of it, as it were.

I'm happily married to a wonderful woman now though, so it doesn't matter of course.

Depends...accent alone might help if you got over heard, but not being a twonk will probably get you further

My missus is a right anglophile, She probably would not have talked to me if I was Dutch or something.

Why do people relate minger with ginger? Nothing wrong with ginger although I would argue that I am auburn and not a ginner!

My mother was Ginger!

Being the father of two lovely women, I find your post somewhat amusing. However, I am reminded of the video at http://www.notever.co.uk which is getting a lot of attention here for some reason lately.

The accent will not help with American women, they think it sounds "gay", but it will help in getting a job because Americans think people with a british accent are well educated.

It certainly seems to help if you want to appear in infomercials selling junk on late night television ...

It also probably depends quite a bit on exactly what kind of accent you have ...
