Text message from USA computer to UK mobile

Does anyone know if I can text message my mum from my PC to her UK mobile phone?

My mum is currently on holiday in Spain but her mobile works over there and I need to text her from my PC.
Her phone is on the Orange network, I don't have a cellphone here in the USA so none of the websites I've tried will let me sign up without me also having a valid cell phone number.
I can of course call her when I get in from work tonight but by then it will be a bit late and I can't call her here from work.

Does anyone know of a way I can do this? I only need to send her one text message but its really important I contact her asap!

Probably, via email, but each network has there ownn way of doing it, so check orange, but it's usually something along the lines of the whole phone number @ orange.com or somin' like that....

that would be the easiest way...

My daughter can email me (pictures) from her Orange mobile phone to my pc. I haven't tried it in reverse..... However, I've just tried and am waiting to see if she receives it. Will let you know.

Ok, just talked to her- she didn't receive it.

if youve got msn messanger you could use that, i use it all the time internationally its quite good

Anyone use yahoo messenger? I tried a few times on that but the UK ones never seem to work. I can msg US numbers fine? Anyone ever got that working?

Thanks everyone for your really helpful replies, this forum is a lifesaver sometimes. :)

This page that Bob referenced http://www.notepage.net/smtp.htm is excellent and I was able to sms-email my mum using my plain old yahoo account. I don't know for certain if she's got it, as knowing my mum, she won't know how to message me back bless 'er.

For anyone else wanting to send a text message via PC I highly recommend taking a look at the above link as it has a ton of references to all mobile phone companies here, in the UK and elsewhere.
