Default Tesco update

Article in today's Times states:

Tesco has obtained a lease on a 32,500 sq ft lease in Glassell Park, LA.
This is twice as large as expected: previously Tesco said that the new stores would be 12,000 sq ft.
Headquarters are in El Segundo, Calif

I had Tesco/M&S/Waitrose "moment" when I was walking to my local Safeway yesterday... just wanted to get some healthy, fresh ready meals and snacks like I used to buy... why are US food stores so crappy?

Please Tesco, open a store in San Francisco!

Does everyone think Tesco's are going to import the goods from the UK ?

NO !
It will be the same old US food in Tesco packaging.

Shaws is Sainsbury's ...... does anyone in the north east find UK stuff on the shelves ? ... If Tesco here sold the same stuff they sell back home it would be too expensive, none of the locals would shop there.

Allegedley they have a mock-up store in CA, where they're doing Market research. So unless we can convince expats to invade, it'll be 'Merican orientated.

You can just see the dust cloud as swarms of ex-pats snatch up trolley fulls of US bacon, franks, sugar-bread and corned beef. Yep, they'll take WalMart out overnight.

Well, in Texas where space is not generally a problem and a lot of it exists between people's ears, it'll be a while before we see a Tescos.

Despite skyrocketing insurance premiums and copays, everyone I've encountered this week outside my own job, has continued to be steadfastly against any sort of universal insurance, with people earning poverty level wages saying that people are largely uninsured because they're lazy or stupid.

I keep meaning to ask if they watch Fox News channel.

M & S used to own Kings Supermarkets...apart from the odd pudding and biscuits at Christmas...they don't sell M & S or British food.

But surely you realise, Amy, that univeral healthcare insurance is just a euphemism for socialized medicine which, we all know, is the work of the devil!

Since were on food stores today. Inspired by JG and Gruff on local British food outlets, I found a Wegmans in Downingtown, about ten minutes fron No. 2 daughter and her OH's place. went there last week and spent good money for not very much. Today I hit World Market, Flavour of britain and Total Wine for some wine and some beer. Again, my wallet was much lighter for not very much although I got some fruit pastilles, haven't seen those in a very long time. I didn't get the pickled onions I wanted though, just some piccalily.
Then I bought a roomba, I hope that does the job, I hate vacuuming.

I've got a real yearning for some pickled onions. Better call the expats tomorrow and ask if they have any in.

Roomba is great...especially for solid floors.

I buy English pickled onions from our local wine store.
