But how stupid were we to think that Tesco wanted to help? No, they invariably sent their spotty teenaged baggers to help young women bag their 7 items of makeup and a bag of crisps, or the confused looking bloke in a suit who hadn't ever been in a supermarket and had just popped in for 20 fags and a bunch of flowers, but would always steer clear of us with our £250, 15-bag weekly shop, leaving us struggling to bag while keeping the twins amused.
When we finally complained, the manageress told us that we were being unreasonable, and that having someone help us with a shop that size "would take ages".
I seem to remember she ended her explanation with that little cough from Little Britain, but maybe she just said "duh!".

It's hard to get excited about this when an article I read about Tesco's coming to AZ, would mean just another upscale grocery store similar to the AJ's fine foods shops we already have. I'm sure they will have a token flake or bottle of Robinsons, but I doubt anything else from the Brit stores will carry over.

It'll all end in tears with all of you slinking back to your old food haunts with your tails between your legs.

You all have very high hopes. Remember that Tesco is a successful international business, hence (from tescocorporate.com):
"Act local - local customers, local cultures, local supply chains and local regulations require a tailored offer delivered by local staff - less than 100 of Tesco's International team are ex-pats"

I think I would have to be desperate to spend that sort of money on 6 rashers (that's not to say that I'm not desperate once in a while!)

It kinda amazes me how people believe that Tesco's US will sell much (or even any) british food products, after all - tescos is in the business to make money, not to make us ex-pats happy, its a grocery store in the US so it will be tailoring to the US market, british foods are far to much or a niche speciality market...
