My US boyfriend and I are currently considering applying for the K-1 as it seems the least troublesome route to go.
I was under the impression that on obtaining a K-1 visa you were automatically given a temporary 90 day work permit. However, I have just studied a few immigration sites closely and they say you MAY receive a work permit on arrival in the US. Surely, they either issue them or they don't? Does anyone have any experience or information on this? Thanks |

Some ports of entry *might* issue a work stamp upon arrival, but recent experiences are that these are "drying up." You can find, however, latest listings here: http://www.k1poelist.com There are no guarantees, however, that a port that issued one last week will still do it this week...depends on INS directives, which officer you get, what mood he/she is in, etc. Once one arrives on a K-1 visa, if he/she does not get a work stamp at the port of entry, the local INS office *might* or *might not* issue a temporary work authorization card, depending on which way the wind is blowing on that day or whether the humidity is high. Don't you just love this process already? ;) Read more about EAD cards "ins and outs" at the AOS section of the Doc Steen site.
