Teaching in the States

Hi, I'm going to be moving to the States with my American husband shortly. I have a PGCE in Secondary English. I know that states have different guidelines regarding certification, but is it widely accepted? I'll be moving to New York. Has anybody else been through this? Any documents I need or advice?

Thanks

Not sure about New York but I can tell you there are LOTS of out work teachers in MI. Lots of school cuts, it is hard occupation for the natives to find work in.
