Default Tea & Beer & Healthcare

Hi all,

Just arrived in Phoenix, AZ and I desparatly need some help.

Kettles - Been to Target (1 Electric kettle $20) is this good value, as I've seen some much higher prices

Beer - British / Irish Pubs in Phoenix - I've heard the George and Dragon is OK, and that there is a (reasonably) new Irish Pub in the area, anyone live here and can advise?

Stella Artois - Where is the best place to Buy / Drink the ol' Favourite?

Healthcare - is it best to buy in the US (after being told I have to be here over a year by a lot of places) or to buy in the US - Any suggestions please?

Thanks to all.

Kettles won't get much cheaper than that. If you find a real one from the UK, expect to pay $50 upwards.

Stella Artois - fat chance of finding that one.

Healthcare - is it best to buy in the US (after being told I have to be here over a year by a lot of places) or to buy in the US - Any suggestions please?
Not sure what you're asking. But, if you visit the UK and can get work done there, that's often the best deal. Travel insurance from the UK will likely not cover you once you stay here. As for US health insurance, well, there are a ton of depressing threads around here about that.

Don't live in AZ but would like to chip in about electric kettles.

Is there a Wallyworld (Walmart) near you? They'd sell similar quality kettles as the ones in Target. Also, if you have Linen 'n Things and Bed, Bath and Beyond, they should sell electric kettles too.

I bought mine from L 'n T in 2002 and it cost $50. I consider it a good buy (it is a Krups). Price may have fallen since then.

I don't know if you have an Aldi's supermarket near you, but I got a cordless 7 cup electric kettle for $10! Don't remember the brand name (Osier maybe?), but got it several months ago, and it hasn't blown up yet, so it must be okay!

I got my kettle from Target about four years ago and it's going great, it's a Tefal.. isn't that the men with the large foreheads?

As for the beer, hubby buys different stuff from different countries in World Market...have you seen any of those near where you're at?

As for the George & Dragon.. it's a nice place although I've not been down there for a few years... (being out of the state) But... I think I've heard mention of an Irish bar not too far away from where I'm at.... what side of Phoenix are you at?

For beer, take a look here.

I would also recommend checking out the Sonora Brewing Company. They have some excellent beers, try the Top Down if you like Stella or the Burning Bird if you want something different to quench your thirst on a hot summers day!

I bought my Phillips kettle from Target in central Phoenix for about $32...it's brill. The George & Dragon is great. The owners are English I believe, and the toilet is decorated with fake pound notes! I also recommend Trader Joes at 4821 N. 20th Street (junction of Camelback Road), for other British and European foods.
