Default Tax time of year.

It's coming into that time of year again, when everyone tries to work out the tax system in USA.

I'm here as a researcher on a J1 visa and I understand I can _probably_ claim all my federal tax back under article 20a of the UK tax treaty. This is under the proviso that I leave at the end of the 2 year period, otherwise I owe back all the taxes (including fines!)

However, if I do leave USA and take a job back home in UK, can I come back to USA again? If I do come back, will I owe all my taxes back, or is there a waiting period after which I'm free of paying back these two years taxes? And can I then start claiming the 2 year tax treaty again? IF anyone can offer any assistance, or has been been in a simlar position I'd be very much obliged for any information.

Regards,
James

Best bet would be to ask in the visa section of the forum perhaps....but anyway, most J visa come with a home residency requirement which mean you'll be out the country for 1-2 years anyway.
