Lightbulb Tax Rebate When Leaving UK

Hi All,

Now that we have visas and tickets (yipee!!) thoughts about the actual move become a little more focused..!

I've pulled some info together concerning letting the Tax Man (HMRC) know that you're leaving the UK, and claiming a rebate on income tax paid todate for the current tax year.

I've stuck it on the wiki at http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Taxes_When_Leaving_The_UK

I'd appreciate any edits/suggestions/corrections etc and hope people find this info as useful as I have.

Cheers

Harry

Like it - waiting for my rebate to come through now. I filed the form at the end of August, will post back when it gets here.

Maybe worth adding that it is meant to go to the tax office of your employer (I think - I hope so cos that's where I sent mine!) so it helps to get the address of the tax office from your employer before you leave.

Oh yes and don't forget to separate out one portion of your P45 form, only 2 parts of the form are to go to the tax office, the other is for you to keep. Don't send them all off like I did

Thanks NatashaB!

Can you advise which part of the P45 you keep?

Cheers
