The reliable rumours indicated considerable discussions took place with consultants prior to the announcement of the engagement. The concerns were possibly not as much to do with Megan. She is, by all accounts, already a fairly successful businesswoman in her own right and as a result of her Canadian work has experience with the IRS difficulties relating to foreign interests. The main concerns may have been from the Windsor and Spencer estates regards any children from the marriage. Future renunciations must have been discussed at some point.

The House of Grimaldi seems to have survived the experience of an American marrying into royalty.

A lot of people have been saying Harry wanted to get married quickly because of Prince Phillip being in deteriorating health; I suspect it had more to do with his wife's immigration status.
