The post had been moved - I thought it was more relevant in immigration as it was specifically about moving money to the US when coming here .. but nevermind.

I have tried many times looking for specific posts on search and after time goes by they can become very hard to find. Yesterday I was just rushed and flustered on the issue but eventually found the correct IRS stuff anyway.

JerseyGirl yes, he's American, currently working in Qatar, I now have an interview out there .. the problem is with what we do after.

well it's got nothing to do with immigration, but a lifestyle thing....and if he's american and working in a tax free state, he'll have to pay full whack to the IRS, employer should be able to tell him about it and have a decent accountant to deal with the IRS, and should probably know about house sales.

Qatar is just an added confusion. It's my house and I was looking for the info on how much CGT I would have to pay and under what circumstances, if I were immigrate to the US after having been in Qatar for 2 years.

It's too complex for me tho, too many variables, an accountant is well in order. Thanks tho.

The tax treaty between the US and UK would have helped if you were paying UK taxes, but if your resident in a tax free country and not pay any tax to the UK, you'll have to pay it to the IRS if your not careful, definately consult with someone that's had experience because it'll depend on when you move over etc...
