Default Taking funds/financial instruments from UK to US

I am looking to carry some funds/financial instruments/gold to USA on my next trip. They are in the name of my UK husband, and we know that I can only take in a total of $10,000.

What documentation do I need to prove these are mine (I am travelling alone) in the event I'm asked about them?

Actually, you can bring in as much as you want, but if you're bringing in more than $10,000 you have to declare it.

You also need to check how much you can take out of the UK without having to declare it to HMRC.
