Taking dog into Canada from the USA, and back

We are Brits with US passports living in the US. We are going to visit a friend in Canada. We plan to take our Dog. What do I need to get her into Canada, and then back out? I did a google and it said a valid rabis certificate. Anyone know any different?
Thanks
Rob

That's correct a rabies certificate is required...although of the dozens of times I've been to Canada by road I've only been asked for it twice. I've never been asked coming back into the US.

The first time I forgot the certificate was the time I was asked to produce it. The immigration officer was satisfied with the rabies tag on the dog's collar as it was dated...but I've noticed the new doesn't show the date.

Our rabies certificate also shows the dates and expiry dates of the other canine shots too.
