But I understand the OP's comments on gluttony in the office. Our law office always has a meeting or conference with so much food. Steak, chicken, shrimp, pasta, salad, rice, sandwiches, fresh fruit, rolls, cookies and pastries. I'm one that takes some to put in my tupperware container. But I take the salad without dressing for the evening meal and/or lunch the next day. But there are others who will take enough for a week and not bat an eye. I can and do walk away from sweets because I have no choice if I want to live a reasonable healthy life and not lose a foot or leg in the future due to my disease.

To be limited to the amount of them I can have is crushing. No corn, carrots, or any root veggies, like turnips, squash, potatoes, etc. Then there is the drug they give you to lower your blood sugar and the drug doesn't allow you to lose weight so it is a catch22 situation. Now I have kinder thoughts to extremely obese people since I know that there it is very hard to lose the weight. I don't excuse them but I can understand it on the level of "are there, am doing that". I absolutely hate being a diabetic and sometimes find myself cursing out both parents for having passed the whatever on to me and not to my sister as well.

Good for you, Rete! My ex and a lot of his immediate family have diabetes, I've never seen people who would eat anything (even though they knew they weren't supposed to!) I feel sorry for my older daughter.....she could very easily become a diabetic
