No, it is born out of common courtesy, as there are holidays other than Christmas being observed at this time of year. If you know what a person celebrates, you can greet them appropriately; if not, you show them the courtesy of an all-encompassing greeting.

Mucho cuidado amigo- it is amazing how similar looking a skinned dog (less tail abd head) and a skinned lamb/goat look...kinda like rabbits/cats. my MIL can tell stories about the Spanish post-war famine.
