Default Suburbs in LA

Any suggestions for my sister moving across in New Year with husbands new job?

She is focused on Malibu?

That would be in the state of CA, rather than the state of LA then?

It all depends on where the job is based, what sort of commute they could put up with and the salary. They may well get sticker shock at Malibu.

He is president of a company mainly west coast based so will be travelling 6 days a week. She is lady of leisure.

What are you referring to in terms of sticker shock?

She said something about a budget of $10,000 per week

Sticker Shock. Noun
(idiomatic, chiefly US) Disgust, shock, or fright upon learning the price of an item offered for sale

Even assuming that is their total weekly budget for everything that would still leave around $5,000 per week ($250k) per year for accommodation so your sister would appear to have quite a lot of options ...

Malibu is certainly one of the most desirable areas, kind of a closed community but that might work quite well for them.

If you do mean the rental budget is $40,000 a month they can take their pick of the plum areas.

Can you be a bit more specific? I live in the LA suburbs, but can't really advise without knowing a bit more about what she is looking for.

Are schools important? Space? The beach? Access to cultural activities? Where are they moving from? What lifestyle are they used to? Is walkability important? Access to the airport? Do they need to live near the Kardashians? :-)

Rent a suite in Santa Monica for a month and then explore the area.

Then anywhere in the LA area is her oyster to chose from. It's mostly then up to what they want from their lifestyle. Do they want to live by the beaches of Malibu, the quiet wooded Hollywood Hills, the up class social life of Beverly Hills, or a more dynamic evening lifestyle of other areas?

With as half million dollar budget per year, they are probably looking at $10 million home price range if they purchased. The following web site will probably give them an indication of what would be available in that price range.

http://www.elitelahomes.com/2010/05/...hills-bel-air/

If they wanted to go higher, then the following site has very exclusive homes in the LA area with an 18,000 sf home in Westlake Village for $12,900,000 or a 21,000 sf home for $17,995,000 in Hidden Hills.

At that price point you can't really go wrong.

As Chris said, depends what else she is looking for.

Give us more clues, I love shows like Million Dollar Listings
