Re: Stealerships!
Whilst it's not entirely fair anymore, in the UK, FORD stood for "Fix Or Repair Daily", and FIAT stood for "Fix It Again Tomorrow".
In my experience of renting cars from US branches of Avis, Budget, Hertz, etc, the US-built cars that I had to drive left a lot to be desired. However, the foreign cars (VW, Nissan, Toyota, etc) were pretty good.
I now drive a Mazda that is 100% Japanese and it's fantastic. My parents have owned a number of Nissans and Toyotas that were also really good. My parents now drive German cars (VW and Skoda) and they're very happy with them too.

Re: Stealerships!
What is a "foreign car" a VW made in TN or a Ford made in Mexico?

Re: Stealerships!
I would have wholeheartedly agreed with the stealership characterisation until this week. We took our Ford F-150 to a local garage, because it kept stalling. The guy worked on it for four hours, changed all sorts of stuff including computer. Still kept stalling.
In desperation we had it towed to the local Ford dealer, and within an hour they'd found the problem (a piece of plastic in a sensor) and fixed it.
