Question staying in US

Hi all,

I would like some info on living in New York. My wife has been given the opputunity to go to NY to run the US marketing division of her company. We have an american laywer looking into all the legal stuff but that takes time and we have some simple questions we would like some advice with. Her side of things will all be sorted by the lawyer but I would like to know will I have any problems living there myself? I guess I will be unable to work ? but would like to know if there are any problems with visa's for a term of at least 6 months.

Thanks in advance

If this is an intercompany transfer of a manager or executive, and she will be coming
on either an L1 nonimmigrant visa or Employment-based immigrant visa, you will be
allowed to work for any employer.

Spouse of L-1 (intra-co transfer) with L-2 can work as I understand it. EAD required.
This is relatively new.

Spouse of H-1B as H-4 cannot work at all (at least H-4 holders I know cannot). I
suppose the latter is what you meant by "employment-based immigrant visa."
Technically, I don't think H-1B is classed as an immigrant visa though it is possible
to (eventually) be sponsored for a greencard under one.

Not unless you have a communicable disease such as TB, syphilis or AIDS, or a criminal record.
