Default Which States Waive Driving Test For UK Licence Holders

I am wondering which states will waive the driving test for holders of a UK driving licence?

I'm not talking about the written/computer or vision tests. Just the actual driving part.

So far it seems that Kentucky and Oregon will waive the driving test. Does anyone know of any other states that do this?

He's right, there are a couple that do.

I didn't think Oregon did, but NJ might? I can't remember.

No practical test in NJ...just a written test if you have a UK DL.

I only did the theory computer test in Georgia, but that was a while ago.

Wrong. My husband had to sit the written exam to get a 30 day learner's permit, and then do the road test to get the license. This was in Kentucky.

http://drlic.kytc.ky.gov/non_us/non_us_ctzns.htm

I know that it mentions on there something about citizens of Geneva Compact countries not needing to take the exam, but my husband (and several other ex-pats that have come to KY) have been required to take all the tests to get a license.

And my husband had to take both written and practical in Oregon earlier this year.

My husband had to take both when we arrived in Oregon almost 7 years ago. And believe me, its nothing to worry about. As long as you're confident enough to drive over here, you'll be fine.

In Minnesota you have to do the theory/vision and road test even with a UK licence, but they do waive the 90 day wait period between theory and road test.

Oregon waives it for Germans, but not Brits. If you can pass a UK test, a US test will be simple.

The poster doesn't seem to realize that in the States you will have to prove state residency before you can swap a license and/or get a new one. Not a matter of walking in, asking for a license swap and then leaving with the new one only to go to the state you want to reside in and swapping the old state license for a new state license.

I didn't have to take either a written test or a road test to get my KY license. Then again, that was prior to 9/11 and the world was more simple in those days! And, to be fair, I was swapping a CDN license... and Canada, at least, drives on the same side as the US!

This really pisses off my good wife who, when moving from MI to KY did have to take both tests!

In New York you have to have a Social Security number to get your drivers licence or State ID as well.. Not sure about the rules in other states.
