starting from scratch
Hey everyone,
We are down to just 6 weekends before we fly out on 30 Oct to the Indy area and I am starting to worry about a few things...
What sort of things, ie paper work, will we need to open a bank account and get a mortgage and car loans.
I already have a bank account but it is jsut in my name and we should have OH job, salary confirmations etc and hopefully will be employed from day one. We will be living with family so nothing is too urgent except I would liek to start rebuilding rather than decluttering my life...a house and car to call my own woul dbe nice.
Any tips?

get extra copies of birth and marriage certs now whilst its easy and cheap to order online.
we didnt try and arrange a mortgage until we had been here about 4 months and it still took over 2 months to get the final approval - so it really wont be quick. (this was feb this year - it had dramatically tightened up in the previous 6 months due to the credit crunch over here - so be prepared for lots of hassle). We had to do an international credit report so needed to give them the telephone numbers and account numbers of all the relevant accounts in the uk so have those details handy (ie utilities, credit cards, phones, insurances, etc). We also needed to prove we had sold our UK home so letters from the mortgage company helped there. We had to prove we had 6 months of mortgage payments sitting around in a bank account somewhere (on top of the deposit) as well.

Thanks for all that!!!! Will do! Thankfully my Aunt is preparing for us to live with them for 12 months but I was hoping we would have our own home before that

You don't need to give a relative's address...most are quite happy to send correspondence to an overseas address.
