Well actually some of their furniture is quite nice. Everything depends on personal taste. Spending more does not necessarily make something nicer.
True, but I've grown beyond "student chic". ....

When I go furniture shopping I've taken to opening doors, lifting cushions and looking at the underside of tables and chairs. If everything looks good I then performing the "shake test" - looking for wobbles and listening for squeaks and creaks.

Ikea does not even meet my idea of reasonable quality. I have no doubt that it has it's place, it is low cost furniture, but that does not necessarily make it good value.

Thanks Patrick. My wife is a USC who has been living in the UK for 6 years. Prior to that she will have had a US licence and insurance for over 20 years.

Will that count, and will she be able to insure a car for two drivers, so thereby covering me?

Re, the auto Insurance, in many states if you drop insurance for just a few months, they stick you back in the Assigned Risk pool. Don't know if Geico are in Texas, but they usually look for drivers with US license of at least 5 years, so that maybe a good start.

I think Texas, is more resonable on Auto Ins than some other places.

Sure I read somewhere, that texas, you don't need Auto Ins, though I would not drive without.

Thanks for the warning Frank, but if they are wielding Ikea axes I don't have much to worry about!

God you lot are posh. Ikea has its place? Flip! Wish I could afford it at my place. Is there a trailer-trash forum somewhere on Expats for people like me?

When you have a wealth of happiness like you obviously do (oh and a social security number), who needs material things, especially Ikea.

You will never be trailor trash in Patricks eyes.
