I think it's because beef hash was a cheapo meal for the poor immigrants back in the day, so they think it's traditional even though it ain't, but to the immigrants it became so...or somin' like that

I was born in Norwich but moved to Wales when I was 4 years old, so I am English but Wales is home as I lived there until I got married and moved to the US.

When we got stationed back in Britain for 3 yrs, we were in Chris's home area that's probably why you're thinking that.

I mustr admit i was a bit overwhelemed witrh everyone in America, who isn't irish, being all about it. The thing is a lot of Americans trace their history to their names and love talking about it, so fair play i suppose. Funny, at work i was one of two people not wearing any green when i was the closest to being irish more than likely.

I explained to my Stepson what the colour Orange meant, he went to school with a orange T shirt under a green hoody. A true democrat

Again, how many hispanics do you see at Hacienda or Don Pablo's on 5 de Mayo? Since we are such a mixed lot- and few (only the 'new' immigrants) can actually say "I am Italian/Hispanic/Irish...". I myself have no f**king clue where my ansestors came from- i am sure I have some German, English, Irish, Polish, Dutch genes in me, but don't really give a shi+. I like to go drink on St Paddy's day with the Irish, Cinco de Mayo with the Mexicans, Columbus Day with the Spanish, and any other good excuse for having a good time.

Yeah i noticed the whole green beer thing too! When i asked a native they told me it is what the Irish drink! I of course responded with, oh yeah I always see green beer when i have been to Ireland (I am half Irish and have yet to see a green pint of beer!), they thought i was being serious and seemed well chuffed with themselves, when I asked about Guinness, they then asked is that a whisky or something? I then explained it was stout, (again puzzled looks!) so then I had to explain it was a type of beer/ale, so they were like, oh so its like bud, is it green then? I then decided the best course of action was to walk away before i ended up slapping them about the head repeatedly and making them ingest the green beer going backwards to the normal digestive course! Every day over here leaves me more and more puzzled as to how this country became one of the more powerful in the world!
