Hi..

In a year my wife will retire. I am already retired. I get a small UK company pension and a UK Government pension. I have some SS contributions in the USA but nowhere near enough to claim.

I understand I can claim an amount around 50% of my wife's Social Security payment as her spouse.

The question is will the US Social Security claw back any of the value of my UK Pension and Company pension due to WEP?

It's far from clear on the SS website

WEP does not apply to a spouse SS pension.

If your wife was subject to WEP that would be deducted from her pension, and then your pension calculated on the amount she actually receives. Nothing would be deducted from your pension. I am in that very situation.

A question : if one is resident in the UK for tax purposes, but also resident in a third country, will Social Security still pay to the UK bank account ? Or is one uses US address ,will they pay overseas ?

My wife is not subject to WEP as she has no UK pension or earnings, not did she work for the US Government.

Thanks, very helpful. I am still trying to figure out the issue of which address I will use ( I prefer my US mail address) as I split my time between countries.

The work provision of 45 hours or lose early retirement benefits I didn't know before recently, this may effect whether I take early social security or not.
