Actually in NYS it does. Traffic infringements such as speeding, running a red light and/or a stop sign, will increase your auto insurance and will be points on your license.

They also don't appear on your record. I've gotten a small number and they don't show up.
Again in NYS it will appear on your DMV driving record which is canvassed by the auto insurance industry.

In many states, if you challenge the ticket and go to court, the officer has to show up too and if he/she doesn't you win and get the fine thrown out. Lots of Americans get out of them this way - though it can be inconvenient because you have to miss a day of work etc. I also don't know if technology advances means this is still the case or if radar data can just be uploaded to the court in lieu of an officer appearing.
I have had that happen to me. I went to court because the ticket was issued for a running a red light and I didn't run it. I went through when it was yellow and I was prepared to fight it. The officer didn't show up and it was discharged.

As well if you are an out-of-stater, some states like Oregon do court-by-phone. I got a $300 one about 10 years ago there (hilly road, going down, slip of the foot, bang was 20 mph over and a cop hiding behind the bushes). Chose the court option, did it by phone from Seattle and got the fine reduced by about 20%.

Here in GA it's a misdemeanor - so technically it gives you a record.

Actually in NYS it does. Traffic infringements such as speeding, running a red light and/or a stop sign, will increase your auto insurance and will be points on your license.
Same here in GA, although you have to be doing 15mph over before you get any points.

What he said.

Depending on the state the repercussions vary.

In florida pay a attorney $79 and it goes away. If cop doesn't show dismissed. If he shows attorney asks for continuance. If shows 3 times attorney pleads it down.

all 4 times in 18 years here, never had to pay. All 4 dismissed.

An expensive way to avoid a conviction.

Hardly. I paid $125 for a speeding ticket last year, the $79 to get out of it I would have paid if I could have been bothered to do so!

Not as easy for Tottenham Steve whom I was replying to. He was talking about an attorney for three court visits, filing continuance motions, etc. That is an expensive way to avoid a conviction.

I got a ticket last year, I was going more than 15mph over. Lawyer plead me down to an unsafe lane change, couple points and a smaller fine.

Mentioned it to the IO in my AOS interview (it happened after we'd submitted our AOS package) and the IO basically laughed and said something along the lines of 'everyone gets a speeding ticket'.

Around where I am failure to wear a seatbelt is the norm, they still get their money but no points.

Got away with my speeding ticket as the local judge is a family friend.

You can always attend court and see about having the speed lowered for a smaller fine but to have it discharged without incurring any infraction would be most difficult. It won't affect your chances for removal of conditions and/or your naturalization. It will, however, up your auto insurance. See about attending classes, which I know are available in PA, that will take the points off your license.
I had one speeding ticket - 86 in a 70, went straight to court couldn't even pay a fine. In the end, had an attorney show up for me, reduced to "improper equipment", no points on license, court fine of $150 + other fees and attorney fee $75, mentioned it on my N-400 and I'm a citizen now so... I mentioned it at my interview and he said "just a speeding ticket?" I said "yes..." and before I could explain he waved it away like it was nothing.

Regardless of getting caught, do people normally go as fast as possible? I feel comfortable driving around within the speed limit. Occasional y I will put my foot down, but that is not my default!
