Default sort of visa question

i have a friend who came into the USA under a 1 year tourist visa, got marriewd within 2 months.
Now they say they have their work viisa without first getting their ssn.
They also say that their greencard will be there in a month (as informed by a lawyer)

can all this be true?

Georgia i think.
Shes from australia, he USA.
it could have beena 6 month tourist thing, not sure.
and think she has been here a total of 6 months, maybe only 5.

Just seems wrong to me that someone, even though i count them as a friend can go through this process so quickly

If it is true, wouldn't be the first thing "wrong" about the US immigration process. As you say they are your friends, I'm sure you'll get over it. Be glad for them.
