Someones taking the p*ss
Just been to Pubix to get some stuff, and fancied some wine. There on the shelf nestled in with the Pinot Grigots etc was a bottle called "Fat Bastard". The label describes this as "Named after the British expression meaning a rich and full bodied wine.". Its bottled by the Fat Bastard Wine Company, Rustiques, France. I kid you not.
Its either that rarity a frenchman with a sense of humour or some Brits have emigrated to France, set up a winery and are 'aving a laugh. EDIT: Infact here they are... http://www.fatbastardwine.com/ |

Re: Someones taking the p*ss
I had a bottle of it on Sunday - they sell it in whole foods. As someone said, it has been in the UK for years. There is 'Old Tart' and 'Old Git' in the UK too!

Re: Someones taking the p*ss
So anyone tried it then?
I've seen it around for a while.. |

Re: Someones taking the p*ss
Publix have a pretty good wine range. If you want a good White Zin for guzzling round the barbie, Bare Foot is a good one, not a bad price. Bare Foot do a Chardonney and also a Merlot. If you want a full bodied red then spend the little extra (still under $10) and buy Los Vascos. Coscto have this at a very good price too.
And on the plonk scale, I nearly died when I saw the price of Blue Nun. For the same price you can get a much better wine. But for most of us Brits its our first taste of wine. It is nice to now see something on the shelves other than Californian plonk. |
