Nobody told me about the above, I've only 2 weeks before flight and am about to do the fit to fly cert from vet which is all I was told I needed, never heard odf this I'm in a STATE.

Are you flying to the US? I ask, because the page you quote seems to be for relocation within the UK. Perhaps this is why you never heard of it before!

No, it definitely states destination country and export FROM the UK, worse thing is the cert is dated 05/11 so I am really thinking this is a new thing! I'm really, really worried especially given that Delta now say on their site export in cabin is not permitted from UK - I booked with United who have "not permitted" next to UK on their site even though they let me book!

I don't know what documentation we submitted when flying our dog over to the US from the UK last year, because we did it through a company, but I know that they told us they would do the appropriate documentation. The date at the bottom of the form says REV which to me, means it's a revised version. I would contact the airport you will be landing at and ask them what paperwork will be required for your cat. As for the airline, I'd contact them direct. Don't panic, I'm sure it'll work out okay :fingerscrossed:

Sorry, should also say, that we had to prove that he'd had the rabies jab and a blood test before he flew, along with the fit to fly from the vet which had to be done within the 10 days prior to the flight.

The airline are utterly stupid. I've called and called and called asking them to clarify why it says "not accepted" next to UK on their site despite so many accounts of people flying with them. They just say they don't understand me (indian call centre.) Over and over "I'm sorry madam I do not understand what it is you are asking." They've let me book and reserve the cat. Delta (not my airline) USED to book cats but now their site says under UK legislation cats cannot fly cabin. I'm terified this is something new.

Now if I call Heathrow I get given the number for United's indian call centre who don't understand me instead of their check-in desk which is who I NEED to ask. I am going round in circles. My vet similarly doesn;t know what to do. I'm trying to get the health cert, but I've a really horrid, sick feeling I'll be showing up on the day with my cat in a bag having already travelled the length of the UK because Manchester don't accept pets in cabin (which I only found out by physically showing up at the airport as I can get no information on the phone), only to be told "Sorry we can no longer do this, you should have been told."

My vet is telling me they don;t know what a fit to fly cert is. I don;t know what the blood test is. Nobody told me! Everybody told me "Just go ahead and book the flight it's fine, United accept pets." This is absolutely horrible.

First of all, take a deep breath, breathe out and relax. Stop panicking.

My advice if you are confused about anything is to first of all go to the PetAir UK website and read up on what is required by way of Fit to Fly certificate and any tests required. The Fit to Fly certificate has to be signed by a vet who is DEFRA qualified. Fit to Fly means just that. That they have no horrible disease or rabies. Your cat will need a blood test but I am unsure of rabies for a cat.

I don't know what it would cost for PetAir UK to arrange for transportation of your cat but you could ring them and ask for a quote and then they would take care of everything for you. Such as the Fit to Fly Certificate, any tests required, export papers, getting your cat onto a flight, etc.

In November last year we had our three dogs exported with us on the same flight (British Airways) into Phoenix. PetAir UK took care of all the paperwork and all we had to do was to arrange for rabies vaccinations for them and we also got them Pet Passports. The girls were picked up from us the day before and taken care of and then put on our flight the next day. It was all very stress free.

You can ban me if you like, wholesale. I always make new accounts when I am picked on and I was (for not liking the UK, LOL). I had abandoned the other account but logged in on my other computer and it remembered the details. Of course this is now what the thread is about.

I'm sorry... when I clumsily used the words "relocation within the UK" I was somewhat in error. Both Ireland and the Isle of Man are not part of the UK... and that is what this form seems to reflect. I'm willing to be 100% wrong on this, but I thought I should clarify.

All I have ever been told is that I can take my pet in cabin with United and that's all I cared about. I don;t want him going in hold and I don't want to have any more paperwork, certainly I do not have time to do more paperwork. I haven;t been told anyting about needing to be defra certified or needing export certs to fly him in cabin in any of the multitudes of threads I have read on these topics, I don't have time to do it - all I've done is the rabies vaccine and all United have told me is I simply need a cert saying the cat is healthy. I'm a wreck about this.

Hi Momongo/Ariadne.

If your vet doesn't know what the 'fit to fly' cert is, find another vet. The certificate is proof that your cats have been examined and found to be in good health shortly prior to the flight. We got ours done three days before we flew -- check with your airline to see their requirements about how close to flight date the cert should be issued (sorry -- I know you've already had a difficult time trying to contact them, but I'm not sure what else to suggest.)

Don't panic about the 'fit to fly' cert. It's something you have to do at the last minute anyway.

FYI, the certs our vet provided were titled 'Veterinary Health Certificate', and:

- were on headed paper, signed and stamped by the vet.
- confirmed the name, d.o.b. and microchip number of each pet, plus my name and (old) address).
- said 'The above described animal was examined by a veterinarian today. It was in a good physical shape and showed no signs of any disease. The cardiovascular parameters were within the physiological range. The animals latest vaccination against rabies was on the 29.04.2010'.

Our vet produced this with no problems (and this was in Germany) so I'm sure you should be able to find a local vet who knows about the formalities. I seriously doubt you'll be able to check in without a 'fit to fly' cert.

Cannot even get any clarification on whether I need certification that the vaccine has taken, cannot get information out of anyone. United say not needed to fly with them, I am flying into Florida though which says, needed for import but NOTHING says if the followup bloodtest is needed AND the state vet told me rabies vaccination not needed at all anyway from UK, but I got it done anyway and I'm still a wreck over whether they'll want the blood test too.

I think I'm screwed. The microchip doesn't have my name on it, or at least I filled out the paperwork to have it changed but they've probably not done it is my guess because I've heard nothing from them. The vet said this was fine (even though the chip was in previous owner's name) and I've a feeling I've been fed a whole load of bad information.
