Social Security Success
My fiance entered on a K-1 on 10/20/02. We went to the Ann Arbor,
Michigan, Social Security office on 10/22/02 and applied for his number. They couldn't find him in the computer, so they held his application for ten days from the date of his entry (i.e. 10/30/02) and then ran his name through the computer again, and bingo, there he was. They processed his application yesterday. He called the 1-800 number and received his SS number this morning and his card will come in the mail in the next two weeks or so. Yay! One thing to note - we had a written work auth on his I-94, but that didn't bother them, thank goodness. And we were so glad they held the app for 10 days to give the INS time to get his name into the computer. The Social Security staff person who helped us indicated that they know the INS can get backed up in entering people's names, so they hold the applications to avoid having to send away to the INS for confirmation of someone's status (or whatever they are confirming), as that can take 45-60 days. Kristin p.s. Rete, I posted this to the Kamya site already. :-) |
