Default Social Security number question

Hi all. My fiancee and I are just starting the K1 visa process. I'm hoping to move to America and marry in July, 2005. Anyway, I actually already have a social security number (from working on a summer exchange program in the US some while back). It's only valid with INS authorisation, but should I put the number on the relevant application forms anyway? I assume since all SS numbers are unique that the number will still be assigned to my name even though I haven't used it for ten years.
Also, will the fact that I already have a SS number speed up the process of getting a job when and if my visa application is approved and I enter the US?
Thanks.

Hi...

By all means yes do use the SS number that you allready have, on your forms.

I do not however think that it will speed up your job situation as the EAD is really the impediment to getting a quick job ( Unless you get the 90 day one from entering through JFK ).

All K1ers can apply for a SS number as soon as they arrive in the US ( Before even getting married ) and most get it in a matter of a few weeks.

Hope this helps..

Need an SSN for income and payroll tax withholding, so just one less they
you need to worry about once you arrive. Do you still have the card too? If
not you will need to apply for a replacement card once you arrive in the
U.S.

Yep, I found the card when I was looking through paperwork the other day, which prompted this question
