Social Security Number for Primary E-2 Visa Holder?

Help, please. Cannot find a reliable reference on this point.

Do principal E-2 Visa holders qualify for a social security number or only
for an ITIN? (Using logical reasoning, it would seem that their function
would be to operate the business they invested in ... that they do not have
blanket authorization for employment outside of their investment ... and
that they could fulfill all government filing requirements with the ITIN.
However, I'm not sure that any of this reasoning is correct.)

I am clear on E-2 visa spouses obtaining Employment Authorization and
qualifying for social security but confused about the options for the
primary E-2 visa holder.

If someone could straighten me out, it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes the E2 visa holder can get a SSN.

Unless the rules have changed in the last 2 years since I got my one.
