I was looking at the SSA web site tonight and came across the follwing that will be
of interest to ALL arriving K1's
http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/...er/std_adp.php
It states " Question I have come to the U.S. to marry my boyfriend. My immigration
document shows "K-1." How do I get a Social Security number so I can work?
Answer The "K-1" symbol on your immigration document means you are the fiancé of a
U.S. citizen and are authorized to work."
Hope answers some questions

Always a good idea just to pop down to the local Social Security office and fill out
the SS-5 (I'm no expert, but it must be a popular form because they had a pile of 'em
right by the door as you go in when I did mine). Don't forget to take the passport
with the K-1 & I-94 in them. You get a SSN assigned to you pretty quickly... takes
about a week or two through the post.
