Social Security number- Customs form

Hi

I am after some advice please. We are just filling in the paperwork for our moving boxes and the official form asks for a SSN. We have had our E2 visas approved and have our passports back.

Am I correct in thinking that we cannot apply for a SSN until we arrive in the USA?

Which form are you using? I only had to do a 3299 when I imported my boxes by ship and no SSN is required on that form.
