Default Social security number

Hey,
I have come to the US on a K1 visa and got married on the 27th December. I am now getting all my documents together to apply for AOS. Does anyone know if I need to apply for a social security number now, or do I wait until I get granted residency? Thanks

If you are still within your first 76 days in the USA (after arriving on the K-1), you can apply for your SSN right now. If 76 days have passed, you will need to wait until you have your EAD in hand, then you can apply for the SSN.

Either way, you do not need to wait until you have your green card in hand.

And whatever else you do, don't mention that you are already married! They don't need to know, and it'll only complicate things with SSA.
