Me and my wife (H4) are applying I-485 (EB-3) and EAD. When will she be
elligible to get an SSN?

I don't know the answer to this but I did read somewhere on the net that dependants may not be issued with SS numbers anymore for non-working reasons - somethig to do with those ******* terrorists again probably. It my just be hearsay though, good luck! SG

Your wife should be filing an I-765 together with the I-485. When the I-765
is approved, and she receives an EAD, then she can apply for an SSN based on
that EAD.

Actually, that predates the terrorism; this policy was introduced in the
mid-1990s. There probably were several reasons for it. Among others, it
makes illegal employment more difficult. The stated reason was actually
far more pragmatic: the SSN has only nine digits, and after using these
numbers for 70 years, the US is not too far from running out of numbers!
