Happy Holidays Patrick and congratulations on your wedding. My husband (from the UK) just applied for his SSN recently. He went down to the Social Security office in St. Paul, stood in a short line and was helped within a reasonable amount of time.

He brought with him form SS-5 (Application for a Social Security Card) and his employment authorization card as well as his birth certificate and drivers license.

They told him that INS had not yet entered him into the computer and that they would have to verify his information with INS, so the process would be lengthier. He was given a "receipt" of sorts that told him it could be 60 days. So far it has been about 45 and still no SSN...but it is on its way.

Go to www.ssa.gov for more info and to download the form you need. Good luck.

Hi All!

Not sure of your status or if this is an original SSN or replacement card
due to marriage, but this will cover you.

Birth Certificate ( no photocopies or uncertified copies) Not needed for a
replacement SSN card
Marriage certificate
Passport
I-94 or I-551 (unexpired)
EAD card if your status require one to work
Form SS-5

You must apply in person, if you are over age 18 or live in Brooklyn, NY
area.

Take care,

Mike

Default SSN

My fiance just got her social security card. It took about 2 weeks. All she needed was to fill out a 1 page form and have her unexpired I-94 visa. Took about 15 minutes as no one else was in line.
