Default Social Security Form

Hi,

We came through on our L-1/L2 visas yesterday into San Fran. We were asked to show nothing except our passports with our visas in, we submitted our fingerprints and had a joke with the very jolly and chilled our immigration officer (or whatever he is). In return he stamped our passports and sent us on our merry way.

I've gone online and downloaded our 194 forms via http://www.cbp.gov/194

So how do i apply for our SS number? Do I fill in this form http://www.ssa.gov/online/ss-5.pdf ?

Is there anything else I'm supposed to be submitting/filling in etc? I've sent an email to the lawyer but don't expect to hear back from him before Tuesday so I'd appreciate any help I can get from the people that know on BE!

TIA

You need to apply in person and you will need your passport and your visa. Should get your ss card about 10 days later.

One other threads, posters have said make sure you tick the box for SS (maybe on the DS230?) - but there was no form with a box to tick - or is that the form I'd get from the SS office?

Give it 10 days from when you enter the country.

DS-230 is the form that has the box you mention. DS-230 is the application form for an immigrant visa.
