social security

I was 65 last july . I receive a uk pension based on 30 yrs . I have 28 credits for social security.I understand I am entitled to some social security under totalisation.
I applied last may. I was told they
were checking with uk but have heard nothing since. It is impossible to get any info from my local office or the listed number for SS.Can anybody comment on how to proceed?
Thankyou

Re: social security

By "UK pension" do you mean state pension?

Looks to me like you have enough credits to get paid out of both schemes independently. Be wary about only claiming from one scheme and getting short-changed.

Are you talking about the UK state pension please? They can be very slow but not that slow.

No, 28 credits is only seven years, I believe. A credit is a quarter. I think the terminology has changed over time...

Oh yes, you're right, I read 28 credits as 28 years. :o

Yes SS credits are quarters, although accrued annually, depending on pay level - I accrued eight quarters of credits for eight months work in 2001-2002.
