in what circumstances can a step child be claimed for on a us citizens social security. I have checked out the social security web site and it says they can be claimed under certain circumstances, does anyone know what these circumstances are.

ok maybe i need to before specific with my question.
if my us citizen husband dies can i claim my child, his step child as a dependant for social security purposes. i am a permeant resident.
