Talking Softly
If there is one, I bet they don't yell like you do ;-)
posting in solid caps means you are yelling. Don't worry that your post won't be heard ... those with limited eyesight are probably using talking computers.
Try doing a yahoo search for british organizations in New York or check out the UK Consulate in New York. They should have a link to a UK club much as the Canadian Consulate has a link to a Canadian organization in NY for Canadian expats.
Also join the http://www.britishexpats.com and ask in the general chat forum. Lots of Brits there living in New York.

They often seem to cluster near a strange brown thing called "marmite" at Fairway,
74th and Broadway. Just head for the French people hovering over the smuggled raw
milk camembert, and turn left on the next-to-last aisle.

Try posting on Lonely Planet
Try going to http://www.lonelyplanet.com, then to "Thorn Tree" There are many "branches":. Try the US one, or the Uk one, or your choice or women travellers.
I predict you will get hooked and waste time at work posting and reading on the thorn tree. Good luck
