If it was anything like the casino issue in Ohio then it's not surprising it failed.

Prop 8 here, gay marriage, no idea if it passed or what. Off to go and look.

So far it's winning 52 to 48% and still counting, they haven't called it yet.

It's weird because they allowed slots out in Bangor...and the Oxford area is pretty depressed for work and has a lot of open land and would have brought a lot of tax money to the state as well as the local area...

OK, it must have been different. The Ohio one was worded in such a way that potentially it wouldn't give much tax to the local area or state. That and it was a constitutional amendment for a single casino!

No, surprisingly. I just checked Question 2 again and according to WMTW it is still undecided and not a definite NO like I thought it was. Their site is showing 99% reported and No 55% Yes 45%. I don't think that is even going to be close for a recount.

It won. I find that sad and pathetic.

I thought it was a good thing but from your comment I take it the issue was a ban and not an allowance?

Yes it was a ban on same sex marriage. So now I wonder what will happen to all the couples marriages that have happened legally this year, now would they be retroactively annulled.
I think they got this one passed on lies, things like your Kindergartener will be taught about gay lifestyle and all kinds of rubbish about no longer being able to opt out of anything at the schools. A load of toss.

I am still stunned that it passed, I really expected better from California to be honest. I was in SF around the time of the Pride parade this year just after same sex marriage was made legal and it never really dawned on me how important the right was until then.
The commercials here seem to have scared a lot of people into voting Yes on the prop. The quote from Gavin Newsom about "whether you like it or not" that was used in the commercial seems to have come back to haunt him.
It would seem that even with a president elect promoting change, some people are still stuck in the past.

So this a ban on marriage, what about civil unions though? I thought you could still have those for passing on insurance benefits etc?

I am a way off voting yet but I will be pleased to have the advertising for the plethora of 'Propositions' and 'Measures' disappear from our screen.
Only the regular Digital TV Transition Ads to get annoyed at for now!

Amen, I'm so glad all the ads are over. TV is bad enough here without all the political ads. My mom went home yesterday and knew all the CA props by heart.
Now if only we could get rid of medication ads I'd be a bit happier
