I'm next to the same Valley as Poppy, it's spread up hill rather badly.
Before moving here I had though California was more progressive. I had no clue what a Home Church was or that people went about praising Jesus in the grocery store It's like living near Heidi and Spencer, when at a loss for words or called on behavior hide behind Jesus

That's wild! The most I get is something like "have a blessed day" occasionally from a check-out girl at the supermarket. I don't think anyone has ever asked where I go to church.
Come to Ohio!

My experience over here is it really depends on what area of California, plus where you work. Small companies tend to have more of the family spirit, where you get invited to different gatherings, larger companies less so.
There is a bit of flakiness all over but I see it more with people who work in more higher pay jobs, some wear it as a badge but to be honest not everyone is like that which is always a good thing.

Hi
As the thread suggests,
I have lost count the amount of times I have seen posters, saying along the lines of..........Its not very friendly in California, (being more precise) I would say people have mentioned Orange County and surrounding areas.
Great! We are considering a move there next year but Im starting to get a little concerned.
Is it the Brits who are unfriendly or the Americans?

I would agree with whoever said it's the 'flakiness' of people here rather than unfriendliness. I have to be honest and say just about all the friends I have made here are Brits - and I'm happy enough with that. We have been here for 2 1/2 years and I view the SoCal's differently now - I guess I don't view them as harshly as I did when we first arrived. I would say that this place isn't the easiest to integrate - you have to work at it... but then that can be said for alot of places!

I'll be moving just outside San Diego next year so I'm hoping everyone is ok there!
