Agreed - it amazes me how many Brits I meet here. I went to see the Chargers for the first time yesterday and when I sat down the two guys next to me were comparing it to their days of having had season tickets at Anfield.

I have been wintering in San Diego for many years and find the people very friendly and helpful. We rent a 2 bedroom apartment on Mission Bay. We used to go south each winter to Sarasota FL which has warmer weather but has little to offer but golf, beach walking and flat uninteresting swamp land.

I can't compare San Diego to anywhere in FL, as I've never been there.

Both me and hubby find that work colleagues are just that, where as in the UK you quickly become friends with some people you work with.
You don't nip to the pub at lunch time, have a Christmas bash, and leaving do's, hen do's, baby showers.... are so tame. Everyone is ultra PC and worried that the person they are speaking to may one day become their boss.
We've been living in LA for 2 years now, I know people from my daughters school and from work. I would call maybe 2 of them friends.
People are nice, but acquaintances. I would never chat to them openly about my life, its just not done here.

Nearly all of our friends here have been made through hubby's work, and a few more at the gym. Hubby works in Biotech. People seem to move all over the world for biotech jobs, and in his/our experience, are well "cared for" by their new colleagues.
We're also acquainted with our current neighbours (we're in a condo complex), but wouldn''t really call any of them friends.

That just shocks me because I haven't encountered that in my neck of the woods and I would have thought it would be much more likely here than where you are!

No kidding.... I've never been asked what church I attended. Well only by the Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons that come knocking on the door.

That sounds like our area, I really get a bit cheesed off with "praise Jesus" every time something good happens

lol Well if my husband was asked what church he attended or someone was constantly "praise Jesus" he'd want to move far far away. We don't live in California and its certainly not for that reason.....maybe they've become more religious since I lived there.
